MACS Nihongo turns any Japanese vocabulary list into your own typing quiz. Snap a photo of a textbook page — AI reads the words, readings and meanings — then practice by typing answers in romaji, with natural native audio.
This app is the Japanese-learning edition of MACS英単語 (MACS Eitango), an English vocabulary app a father in Osaka built for his daughter — which itself carries on the name of a learning program his own father made for him about 30 years ago. This edition was created so that colleagues learning Japanese can study the same way.
Photo-to-quiz with AI · romaji typing with flexible spelling (both Hepburn and Kunrei accepted) · missed words repeat until you master them (2 correct in a row) · flashcards · 10-word parts with stars · daily streak · natural Japanese voice.
Your word lists and progress are stored only on your device. When you use photo import, the image is sent through our relay server to Google's AI (Gemini) for text extraction only and is not stored. No account, no ads, no tracking.
